The DREAM AND THE VISION STARTS WITH YOU!
“Some People Dream of Success While Others Wake Up and Work Hard at It” – Winston Churchill
I don’t get it, what’s the difference? Between a dream and a vision, whats the difference? No matter what it is you would like to achieve it all starts with the dream and a vision. That vision is then propelled by action, driven by passion until success if delivered. I know your thinking the action part is most important but truly action without a dream or its vision is just activity. The dream is the imagination at work to ponder the possibilities of “what if? The vision is the mind at work contemplating“why not!” Lets look closer at the two and see why they are so important and why it all has to start with YOU!
The Dream. – That’s where it all starts, isn’t it? A dream about something you would like to do or a place you want to go. Maybe it’s about something you want to create or perhaps something you think needs to go away? Look around you right now.
Aside from the wonders of nature, everything you see, touch, read, use, rely on, get frustrated by, enjoy using, glad you had it, wish you didn’t…, EVERYTHING began with someone’s dream.
It happens at all sorts of times; during a conversation, driving down the road, laying in bed and sometimes just out of the blue…A dream, a spark of imagination that pops in your head. Most times it is just a passing thought but then there is that one that is clear, special, the one you can’t get it out of your head. You think about it at least once if not a thousand times a day. You have gone over the possibilities, what it would take to make it happen and mostly what it would be like if it were true. Sometimes you even find yourself daydreaming about it all. Unfortunately for most … that is where it ends!
It almost seems impossible for most to move past the dream and into the vision. You may have dreamed of retiring on a boat somewhere warm without a worry for money and just enjoying life as it may come. You may have dreamed of writing a bestselling book or inventing the next great thing. Or perhaps it’s a social movement of you believe in strongly. It doesn’t matter how big or how small the dream is there is no reason why it can’t come true.
People have their dreams come true everyday! So, why not you!
The Vision. There is such a huge gap between having a dream and actually living out that dream. How do you start moving forward if you don’t even know what the next step might look like or the next steps just seem too big to overcome? After you have the dream you must envision the journey of achieving it. Now is the critical time that you need to ask yourself; Is this dream important to me? Is this dream just a passing fancy or something you really want?
Without a Vision a Dream is left on a pillow. The vision is no less part of the dream than the dream is of the vision. Imaging going on an amazing vacation to a luxury hotel in a grand city somewhere you have never been before. The dream is the vacation destination but the vision is imagining and thinking about how to make it come to pass. How are you going to finance it? How are you going to travel? How long will you stay? When can you leave? Daunting questions and for most this is exactly where the dream dies. But with vision you begin to imagine ways to answer these questions and through this vision, obstacles like these which look insurmountable to others become achievable goals that will be overcome.
Picture your life and how exciting it might be as you work towards your dream. How it would make you feel telling others what your working towards instead telling them about an idea you once had. By speaking of actions you are taking and not just a thought you once had you will be amazed at the doors that might be opened along the way because others will see your passion and want to help.
Did you know Thomas Edison had over 2000 failed attempts to make his incandescent light bulb work? When asked about this, Edison said that he had not failed 2000 times; he had found 2000 ways it didn’t work but only need to find one way in which it would. Now that’s determination and belief in a dream and a vision.
For most the dream just seems impossible because the immediate vision seems too big or most commonly simply gets lost in not even knowing where to start. Wonder how big the dream of electric lights was back then? If you could ask Mr. Edison I’m certain he would tell you that unfortunately there are no such things as magical genies that will wave a wand and make your dream come true or your vision a less difficult path but fortunately there is something much better. YOU! Yes I said you. And why not you? Can you think of some reason why you don’t deserve to see your dream come true or your vision come to pass? I can’t, and I would bet anything that Edison’s dreams never came with a set of instructions either. So why and how then, are so many of his inventions part of our lives today? What was it that fueled his visions over such huge obstacles?
